After McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have not stopped their operations in Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine, social networks have called for these companies to cancel their commercial activities.
For this reason, from Twitter the hashtags #BoycottCocaCola were promoted , #BoycottPepsi and #BoycottMcDonalds, which trended on Twitter, promising consumers not to buy their products as long as they continue to do business in Russia.
McDonald’s, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, are becoming more and more pressured by both political figures and social network users to withdraw their businesses from the country, which does not place them in a favorable scenario with those who are not in favor of the Russian invasion.
In addition to the boycott called on social networks, specifically on Twitter, it was announced that three supermarket chains Markets in Ukraine announced that they would remove Coca-Cola products from their shelves.
The Ukrainian supermarket chain Novus announced at the end of last week that it would stop selling Coca-Cola products and described the company as “shameless” for continuing to “work with the invaders with all their force”.
On the other hand, the supermarket chain Fozzy Group also announced that it began to withdraw all the products from their facilities, in addition to the fact that they have slowed down the distribution of the products.
“Starting today, we will remove all products from the shelves of Silpo, Fora, Fozzy Cash&Carry, Market super Thrash stores, we will stop all future deliveries”, the company specified, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
But the situation for McDonald’s and PepsiCo has also been complicated in the United States, because the New York State Common Retirement Fund, one of the largest public pension funds in the country, is putting pressure on them to, by least, pause commercial operations in Russia.
The New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli warned in a series of letters that companies that continue to operate in Russia and invest in Russian assets “face significant legal, compliance, operational, human rights, and personnel and reputational risks.” growing”, highlighted the FOX chain.
According to a report by Bloo mberg, McDonald’s got about 9% of its revenue last year from Russia, according to a company presentation. According to the restaurant chain, the 84% of the 1200 branches in Russia are owned by the company.
For its part, PepsiCo, a brand of snacks and beverages, derives 4.4% of its revenue from the Russian market. Bloomberg highlighted that last year that percentage represented at least $3,400 million dollars. The company has 04 facilities in the country, where potatoes and milk are processed .
