This Tuesday morning President Joe Biden announced an unprecedented ban on imports of oil, natural gas and coal originating in Russia, in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.

It is expected that the measure will cause a greater increase in gasoline prices in the country and a blow to the pockets of Americans.

Until this Tuesday afternoon, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA) the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the country was $4.100 Dollars, the highest figure in the last 06 years. The previous national average top price was $4.11 dollars, established on 17 July 2008, according to AAA.

Just on Monday, the average price was $4.06 Dollars. Last week the average cost was $3.75 dollars.

According to various experts, Gas prices are likely to continue rising after Biden’s announcement.

However, the price is even higher in Europe, averaging 1 last week.75 euros per liter, according to the European Commission, the equivalent of $7.21 dollars per gallon.

Prices at gas stations were rising before Russia invaded Ukraine and have risen faster since the start of the war.

Which are the states with the highest prices

According to AAA, California is the state where prices have skyrocketed , largely because it maintains its own standards on the gasoline that can be sold and has rules that seek to reduce pollution.

As the state tries to move away from fracking, it is becomes increasingly vulnerable to variations in external oil prices.

The cleanest gasoline is more expensive to produce and few refineries outside of California can do it.

There are also no interstate pipelines that bring gasoline to California, which means that all imports must arrive by ship or truck, which implies a higher cost.

This is the list of the 10 states where gasoline is sold more expensive:

California

Hawaii

Nevada

Oregon

Washington
