Clark fired back, wounding the student and disarming him. He then called dispatch to report the shooting while a tourniquet was being applied.
“From the director’s office in Olathe East,” the officer radioed to dispatchers. “I am applying a tourniquet. I think the suspect has been shot. The director has been shot”.
The Olathe Police Department commended Clark for making sure the situation didn’t escalate, so that no other students or teachers were hurt.
After the chaos of the shooting, the focus was on bringing together the student body with their parents, who shared the fear they experienced during that tense moment and the relief that their children were fine.
“Honestly, I got a text from my son saying, ‘If I get shot today, I love you,’” Father Cory Stone said.
“I was so happy that I started crying when she got off the bus. I almost jumped on her,” said mother Keicia Stillman.
