Russia detains more than 5,000 people in protests against the invasion of Ukraine

During the four days of the military struggle initiated by the Kremlin in Ukraine, the Russian authorities have arrested 5, 250 people for demonstrating against the war, as reported today by OVD-info, an organization specializing in monitoring arrests and defending detainees.

The organization, labeled in the country as “foreign agent”, has been updating the figures of arrests of Russians who oppose the “special military operation” ordered in the past 04 February by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

OVD-info denounced today that in San Peter sburg police carried out violent arrests, with at least three injured among the protesters.

A young man had his arm broken, a girl lost consciousness after being hit on the head and a man was thrown over a fence.

According to the organization, the police photographs and takes fingerprints of the detainees and denied medical assistance to an older man.

A similar situation took place in Moscow, where the police threatened detainees with insubordination charges if they refused fingerprinting.

OVD-info also reported abuses in the cities of Kazan , Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod.

Despite this, hundreds and thousands of Russians take to the streets to protest against the war.

As Efe was able to confirm today, a group of about 500 young people paraded through the center of Moscow shouting “No to war”, but without carrying banners or flags .
