Russia’s state communications regulator reported this Sunday that through a letter to Google’s parent company, Alphabet, it demanded that access to Russian media’s YouTube channels be restored on Ukrainian territory, after the sanctions imposed by the technological giant for its disagreement with the war.
The regulator, Roskomnadzor, said that he wanted the remove all restrictions placed on the Russian-language YouTube channels of RBC, TV Zvezda and Sputnik media outlets. So far, there has been no response from the technology company to this demand.
On the other hand, on Friday from the Moscow government authorities it was said that Meta’s access to Facebook was being partially limited, affirming the company to “censor” the Russian media.
The sanctions by the big technology companies on Russia and its media have not stopped since the government headed by Vladimir Putin decided to attack Ukraine.
Yesterday, YouTube announced that it has banned the Russian media outlet RT from monetizing ads on its platform with the intention of cutting off the revenue they could generate in that way.
Through a statement, YouTube confirmed the restriction measure against RT, a medium that has been linked to the Putin government for spreading propaganda, after the military actions in Ukraine and the advance towards the capital Kiev.
This restriction measure is added to the sanction that Meta announced a day earlier that prohibited Russian state media from monetizing their content or generating income through the services of its platform Facebook.
Meanwhile, Twitter reported yesterday that its network service was “restricted for some people in Russia,” but not for the general population. So far, it is not known if the platform created by Jack Dorsey will put more restrictions.
