Manchester United legend Paul Scholes criticized Ralf Rangnick after the Red Devils drew 1-1 against Southampton and said he is a sporting director, not a manager.

The draw against the ‘Saints’ is the third game in a row in which United have not won.

“Ole’s dismissal could be seen coming, we all knew it was going to happen, but then we asked ourselves: “What is the plan? There has to be one, there has to be a top manager to bring this club back to life,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“This is Manchester United, you have to have the best of the best, not not have a plan and bring in a sports director who has trained two years out of the last ten. Don’t get me wrong, I like him, but he seems to lack the experience of having trained in the last five or six years. It’s a team of individuals and that has been the difference today with Southampton”, he added.

In the ten games Rangnick has managed in the Premier since he arrived, United have scored fourteen goals, the lowest number of any manager in that period of time in the ‘Red Devils’.

The situation in the table is worrying and they are fifth, with 40 points, the same as West Ham United, which is fourth, but with only one advantage over Tottenham and four over Tottenham Hotspur, who have two and three games less, respectively.

There are three games in a row without knowing victory and six without scoring for Cristiano Ronaldo, who was doing more of a decade that did not have a similar streak, since the season 2005/2006, in which he scored nine goals in 50 matches.

Ralf Rangnick’s men once again had a decent first half, in which Jadon Sancho scored his first goal at Old Trafford, at the end of a counterattack initiated by Bruno Fernandes and led by Marcus Rashford.

But the team fell, like against Burnley, in the second half. Che Adams took advantage of a mistake by Luke Shaw to enter alone on the wing and beat De Gea with a low shot, stuck to the post. United went for the win, but it was Southampton who could have won if Armando Broja hadn’t missed a one-on-one against De Gea.
