The former Uruguayan international player Diego Forlán, who in August 2010 announced his retirement from professional activity, will take down his boots to compete in the traditional University Sports League (LUD) of Uruguay.

The athlete will be part of the category for over 40 years of the Old Boys & Old Girls Club, an institution with more than 100 years of history.

“Hi Diego! Welcome @DiegoForlan7 back to the University Sports League. You are at home”, reads a publication on the LUD Twitter account.

Founded in 1914, this competition’s mission is “to contribute to the formation of university students towards life and society through amateur sports competition”.

Interviewed by the local radio station Sport 890, ‘Cachavacha’ stated: “The idea is to have fun and share with friends. I haven’t played football since my farewell match”.
