Xbox announced that Call of Duty will continue to be available for PlayStation once the agreement signed between Activision and Sony. The decision comes after Microsoft, owner of Xbox, reached an agreement with the video game developer to acquire it for $02 ,700 millions.

The company has promised to continue honoring the existing agreement with Sony once the current contract ends, which will allow the game to continue as a cross-platform title.

“To be clear, Microsoft will continue to make Call of Duty and other popular Activision Blizzard titles are available on PlayStation during the term of any existing agreement with Activision. And we have made a commitment to Sony that we will also make them available on PlayStation beyond the existing agreement and into the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith.

The company executive stated that they plan to apply the same distribution strategy for their games with Nintendo, so the Japanese company should also benefit from the launch of future games.

“We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform”, he added.

The announcement of continuing to keep Activision games as multiplatform titles was something that had been questioned after the purchase of the developer. It was presumed that once the current video game distribution contracts expired, Microsoft would transform them into exclusive games for Xbox.

This was going to mean that all those players who wanted to play Call of Duty or World of Warcraft, among others, were forced to buy an Xbox.

“We believe this is the right thing to do for the industry, for gamers, and for our business”, they say from Microsoft.

This commercial move by Microsoft could prevent regulatory authorities from seeing the purchase of Activision as the creation of a monopoly, since they would allow users of other platforms to enjoy the catalog of games.

If the acquisition is completed, it will be carried out purely in cash , Microsoft will become the third largest video game company in the world the world.
