Christian Eriksen, a Brentford footballer, recalled the cardiac arrest he suffered with Denmark during the European Championship and said that he remembers everything that happened, except for the five minutes in which he left “this world”.

The Dane, who still does not have a specific date for his debut, gave an interview to the British network BBC in which he reviewed his return to football and what happened in that match between Denmark and Finland in the European Championship.

“I remember everything, except five minutes. I remember the throw-in, the ball hitting my knee and I don’t know what happened afterwards. I woke up with a lot of people around me and pressure on my chest, trying to catch my breath. I didn’t understand what was going on,” Eriksen said.

Eriksen has given @BrentfordFC their first interview since his cardiac arrest:

“I told my wife I’d hang up my boots, but don’t be surprised if I changed my mind in a few days if all was well. Luckily, it has It was. At first everything was difficult “pic.twitter.com/QkyA7X8KEn

“I began to think if I had broken my legs, my back. I tried to move everything to understand what was happening. Then in the ambulance I heard someone say, “How long has he been out?” and another replied: “five minutes”. That was the first time I heard that I was gone,” he added.

As to whether it is a miracle that he can play again, Eriksen said definitely yes, and that it will be “even more obvious” when is closer to dressing short, to being in a stadium and with all the adrenaline that this entails.

In order to compete again, Eriksen has had an ICD implanted, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator. “ I don’t see any risk. I have an ICD, if something happens to me I know I can be safe“, he added.

“I don’t see any reason why I could not return to my best level, if I’m honest. It has been a long recovery and there is still more to come, but I feel that my return is getting closer and I have patience to wait for the right moment”.

“It will be very special to be able to return to a soccer field and play after seven or eight months. It’s going to be amazing,” said Eriksen.
