Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal was discharged this Sunday and will continue to recover from the accident suffered last on an outpatient basis 24 January on a road near Bogotá while training and that almost It costs him his life, reported the doctors who treat him.

“We are pleased to report that today the patient has been discharged to continue his rehabilitation process with our institution on an outpatient basis”, i reported in a statement the University Clinic of La Sabana, where the Ineos Grenadiers team runner underwent several surgeries after the accident.

The medical report explained that Bernal, current Giro d’Italia champion, is “in the third phase of the trauma, ready to start his rehabilitation process. He has no complications and all his injuries are stable and in the process of recovery”.

The University Clinic of La Sabana also disclosed photographs in which Bernal appears standing next to the medical staff who treated him from the day of the accident.

Last Thursday Bernal, also champion of the Tour de France of 2019, said on social networks that he had “nearly 15 broken bones” in the accident in which he almost lost his life and assured that he underwent his “last major surgery and it seems that everything went well”.

The cyclist, who collided at high speed with a bus on the highway that goes from Bogotá to Tunja, at the height of the municipality of Gachancipá, when the vehicle had stopped , listed his injuries: “11 Ribs. Femur. Ball joint. T5-T6. Odontoids. metacarpal a thumb I dropped a tooth. Perforation of both lungs”.

“I almost killed myself, but you know what? I am grateful to God for putting me through this test,” said the Colombian athlete, making gestures with his hands in a sling, and added: “now to recover and make this another comeback.” .
