Hispanic firefighter from San Joaquin County was shot to death while putting out a fire in Stockton

A Hispanic firefighter from San Joaquin County passed away this morning this Monday due to a gunshot wound when he was putting out a fire in the city of Stockton.

Captain Max Fortuna, of 47 years, had responded along with other firefighters to a call that reported a fire in a dumpster on Aurora Street and Washington Street, in downtown Stockton, authorities reported in a Press conference.

Approximately at 5: 02 am, Stockton Police received a report that a firefighter had been injured with firearm, reported Fire Chief Rick Edwards.

Firefighters who were at the dumpster fire administered First Aid to Fortuna before he was taken to a nearby hospital

, where he later died from the gunshot.

Stockton police officers arrested a suspect of being related to the shooting, a man from 70 years, in addition to recover a firearm at the scene of the shooting.

The authorities did not report any further arrests related to this case.

Fortuna had worked as a firefighter for 21 years and is survived by a wife and two children.
