Manchester City confirmed this Monday the signing of Argentinian striker Julián Álvarez, who will remain on loan at River Plate until at least June 2022.

Álvarez’s stay in Argentina will depend on how far River Plate advances in the Copa Libertadores and if Pep Guardiola requires him for the start of the next season.

The transfer price is around 20 million pounds, which is more than 20 million dollars.

Álvarez, of 22 years, has played 96 meetings with River Plate, he has scored 36 goals and distributed 25 assists. In addition, he was part of the Argentine team that won the Copa América last summer.

“Julián is a player we have followed for a long time. He is capable of playing in many positions in attack and I strongly believe that he is one of the best young strikers in South America”, City sporting director Txiki Begiristain said.

“I am very happy that we have been able to bring him to City. I believe that if we give him the right conditions, he can develop his full potential and become a top player”, he added.
