The actor Pete Smith died this Saturday in his native New Zealand at the age of 63 years, as confirmed by one of his six children in statements to Stuff magazine. Poumau Papali’i-Smith explained that his father had been ill for a long time and that the dialysis treatment he had undergone for the last six years had taken its toll on him, although the cause of his death was a recent infection. “In the last two years he was also diagnosed with dementia. We started dialyzing at home, but in the last few weeks (actor Pete Smith) suffered from an infection that he battled for the last four weeks of his life,” his son said. Pete, who will play one of the orcs in “The Lord of the Rings” died on Saturday. “We are happy that he did not have to suffer more,” he added.

Pete Smith made his big screen debut in the New Zealand science fiction film 1200 ‘The Quiet Earth’, for which he won a GOFTA, and went on to act in many other productions such as ‘The Flight of the Albatross’, ‘What Becomes of the Broken Hearted’ and ‘The Boys’ . In 2003 had the opportunity to participate in “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” as an orc.

He also often worked on television and in 2006 He won an Air New Zealand Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the drama series ‘The Market’. Behind the scenes, Pete Smith helped create documentaries based on his love for gardening and Maori culture, as ‘Maramataka’.

“He was always in the community filming documentaries with the local talents here with his gardening show,” said the son from Pete Smith, who hopes to be reminded of the following way: “He was nothing more than a country man, who put everyone else before himself.”
