A passenger sued Southwest Airlines arguing that the employees forced her to leave the plane on which she intended to fly from Palm Beach, Florida to Washington, DC, on January 7.
Medora Clay Reading, from 68 years old filed his lawsuit in New York district court, in which he stipulates that he has a heart condition, severe hypoglycemia, claustrophobia and fainting, “disabilities that are triggered when covering their faces”, says the complaint.
It was until this Thursday that local media echoed the lawsuit filed by Mediora Clay Reading. The local CBS channel in the Palm Beach area notes that the lawsuit alleges that flight personnel kicked Clay Reading off the plane because he constantly removed his mask to drink water, due to a health problem.
The passenger said, according to the lawsuit, that she needed to drink water frequently due to heart problems, severe hypoglycemia, claustrophobia and fainting, all of which were triggered by putting on a mask.
The lawsuit accuses Southwest of violating the civil rights of Reading and its obligations to disabled passengers. You are asking for $10,000,000 for Reading and for airlines to allow passengers to remove masks for medical conditions.
The protocols to avoid COVID-19 during flights have triggered an increase in incidents and violent acts on aircraft.
In 2021, the US Civil Aviation Administration (FAA) received a total of 5,350 reports from US airlines on unruly passengers, of which 1,081, that is to say 183 rather than in 2020, deserved an investigation that led to 350 legal actions.
So far, Southwest has not made a statement in the case, however, it is not the first time that e is involved in a similar situation.
Last year, the airline allegedly did not allow a teenager with autism who could not keep a mask on his face.
Company policy allows disabled passengers who cannot safely wear a mask to receive a waiver if they present a doctor’s note and a negative COVID-19 test before flying.
