HOUSTON – Houston Police have identified the Hispanic man who allegedly shot three Houston police officers.
Roland Caballero is barricaded in an apartment in the Fifth Ward of Houston after he was involved in a shooting during a chase in the Midtown area this Thursday. Caballero is injured in the neck, according to the Police.
Caballero, after shooting the officers, assaulted a driver of a white Mercedes Benz to flee in the vehicle to the Quinto Barrio area, where he ran to an apartment complex located in Lockwood Street.
The shooting occurred on the block 2100 on McGowen Street around 2: 30 pm, according to authorities.
Initial police reports indicate that the police officers involved were responding to a disturbance call on the block 100 of Tralle Street when a chase began.
A video released by ABC13 captured the moment the chase ended when the suspect crashed onto McGowen Street. The suspect at some point got out of the vehicle and gunshots began to be heard when the police arrived on the scene in their patrol cars.
The officers were transferred to Memorial Hermann Hospital, their conditions were not have been updated.
Witnesses in the area have said that around 30 gunshots were heard.
A motive for the shooting has not been released and police are asking area residents to stay away from the scene.
