Female Premier League soccer players will have maternity leave, as well as injuries and illnesses covered in their contract

of long duration, for the first time in history.

The Players Association of England (PFA, for its acronym in English) has reached an agreement with the English Federation to that these conditions, that until now were not taken into account, become a part of the players’ contract.

“We are delighted to confirm that, following negotiations with the FA, we have reached an agreement to support changes relating to maternity, injuries and long-term illnesses in the players’ contracts”, said Marie-Christine Bouchier, director of women’s football at the PFA.

“The objective of the PFA has been to achieve contractual parity for women with respect to the men. There is still a lot of work ahead, but these changes are a milestone,” she added.
