Actress Rachel Zegler made his film debut in the movie remake “West Side Story” accompanied by Ansel Elgort as the protagonists of the story, Maria and Tony. The premiere of the remake was preceded by a certain controversy because, just a few months after filming ended, accusations against her co-star made by a young woman who claimed that the actor had sexually assaulted her when she was 17 years and he 20.
At that time, Ansel replied affirming that their relationship was “brief, legal and totally consensual” , although he did acknowledge that he had acted reprehensibly by suddenly cutting off all contact between they. It was a matter of time before Rachel had to face any questions about it, especially since the actor barely appeared in the promotional interviews that she is doing, and although she is a newcomer to Hollywood, the young actress showed that she knows how to avoid thorny issues.
“We made a movie two and a half years ago, and since then a lot has happened in the world. Many things have changed in the public sphere, and also in private. There has been a great awakening on a general level. The only thing you can hope for is that all the people involved are well, that they are asked respectfully and that they are given the opportunity to answer for themselves,” she said in an interview with the portal The Hollywood Reporter.
Her co-star Ariana DeBose, who plays Anita in fiction, and the veteran Rita Moreno, who played that same role in the original version and also participates in the remake
, will they have resisted taking one side or the other. “No one really knows what goes through anyone’s head. Only the people who were involved in that situation know what really happened,” said the first. “I think it would have been absolutely horrendous and wrong for anyone to take sides on that issue. It is not up to me to make those judgments,” Rita commented.
