A report by the cybersecurity firm, Hitachi ID, revealed that at least 65% of employees of technology companies have received bribery attempts by hackers.

According to the investigation, computer criminals seek through this mechanism to gain access to the private systems and networks of companies to later carry out attacks of ransomware. The figure represents an increase of 17% compared to the latest measurements made by Hitachi ID.

The study highlights that in most of the opportunities for the initial approaches of hackers are produced through social networks or email. However, on some occasions the communication takes place directly by telephone.

On average, the workers of the companies consulted received proposals involving the payment of $500,000 in bitcoin once the attack was carried out.

Hitachi ID ensures that seeing your application rejected offer does not represent any problem for hackers since in at least half of the cases they try to access company data anyway and succeed.

For this reason they consider that the real danger lies in a company being seen as a potential target because in this case the cybercriminals will use their entire arsenal to take control of the company network and subsequently demand a ransom of several hundred thousand or in some cases millions of dollars.

A problem detected by the security firm is that in near 50% of the occasions the employees do not give enough importance to this type of proposal so they choose not to report them to the relevant authorities. While a 31% reported it to their bosses and only 18% reported it to the company and the police.

The report also reveals that 63% of the companies have targeted insurance policies to cover the payment of ransomware attacks. Despite this, half of the companies maintain that although they have a policy for this type of case, they allocate part of their budget to computer security to avoid being a victim of hackers.
