Relatives, colleagues and friends said their final goodbye to the Mexican journalist Lourdes Maldonado, murdered last Sunday in the city of Tijuana.

Wednesday night , colleagues, colleagues and relatives gathered at a funeral home in the Urban Zone of the Tijuana River, where they said goodbye to Maldonado.

Hugo Maldonado, Lubby’s brother, as he was affectionately called, expressed his gratitude to the media and society, who have supported them in the protests against violence, while asking journalists to take care of themselves.

“It is a disgrace, not for the family but for all of Mexico, for many people, for you who kill yourself today working for some asshole to do this type of thing, I want to thank all of you and tell you, take care, something like this can happen to them at any moment,” he said through tears. .

Lourdes Maldonado, shot last Sunday next to her house, was included in the Protection for Journalists program in Baja California, but the surveillance provided was not permanent. His entry into said program was due to fear of a legal problem he had with former Governor Jaime Bonilla.

Carlos Maldonado, also Lourdes’ brother, said that he will not leave Tijuana for fear of reprisals, but will stay and forgive those who committed the crime.

“What we want is peace, we leave the responsibility to the laws, let them do their job and God may do his job if he can receive my sister and forgive the people who killed my sister as we forgive them, “he said.

“I hope this is heard throughout the world and there begins to be peace, I love Tijuana and I am not going to leave here, I give my blessings to Tijuana, to keep going because we shouldn’t be left behind”, he added.

A week ago, in that same funeral home, the body of journalist Margarito had been veiled. Martinez Esquivel. Both cases caused sadness and annoyance among reporters, who on Tuesday organized a national protest to demand an end to violence and attacks against the press. With Maldonado and Martínez Esquivel, there are five journalists murdered in Mexico in the first days of the 2022.
