By their nature, TikTok (Douyin) and Kwai (Kuaishou) share a purpose: the dissemination of videos of all kinds. At this point, they offer competing content creation and configuration options that, at the same time, end up establishing the differences between them:

one. In appearance, TikTok and Kwai are considerably separated. While TikTok displays a more dynamic screen that changes continuously after showing a video, Kwai includes a message inviting followers to join their platform.

two. Kwai offers much more inclusive content as it is designed so that the content of all its users, even those with almost no followers, is seen. Unlike TikTok, whose algorithm focuses on showing content from users with the most followers or videos with the most views, likes or comments.

3. TikTok is focused on entertainment, but does not offer advice to create valuable content as Kwai offers, which also has options e-commerce, streaming and monetization of profiles with few followers.

4. TikTok only offers advice under certain conditions: when a user reaches a certain number of followers or views that allow them to access their creator pool, a tool that is designed to accompany people in the process of monetizing their account.

Because of its inclusiveness, Kwai also offers content from smaller venues, made by a whole fan of creators who expand their offer to thousands of topics beyond entertainment. In an interview for Vía País, Gustavo Vargas, Kwai’s director of communications for Latin America, explained: “We consider that this platform is different from the competition because our algorithm and our philosophy are different. Normally the algorithms go from the upper classes to the lower ones. We are a platform that reaches the center, the masses”.

TikTok, however, it represents the most popular option among influencers who, at the same time, move a large number of followers, so its reach and leadership among apps of its kind can be considered self-evident. Added to this is the availability of a Lite version that is usually lighter and works on devices with less storage capacity, although not with the same features and configuration options as the full version.
