A speeding motorcyclist being tracked by a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter was killed in a brutal head-on collision during the chase.

The cyclist unidentified was speeding down Roscoe Boulevard in West Hills, California. around 1 pm Thursday before colliding head-on with a left-turning vehicle.

The police saw the motorcycle around 1 pm and radioed his license plate number, Officer Melissa Podany, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department, told the Los Angeles Times. The helicopter was requested to track the motorcyclist from the air, who took off at high speed.

The motorcyclist drove at excessive speeds before colliding with a car at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Fallbrook Avenue in West Hills, Podany said.

The live video streamed by KCAL-TV Channel 9 showed the motorcyclist reaching estimated speeds of over 80 mph shortly before crash ar and be thrown into the air, landing many feet away.

Sgt Bruce Borihanh said the police vehicles did not pursue the motorcyclist.

The local CBS news station that followed the persecution captured the violent impact live.

“Oh my God!” said the presenter, while covering her face with her hands. “We just saw, I’m sorry, we just saw the motorcycle hit a car there at the intersection.”

According to the Fire Department of Los Angeles, the accident occurred at 1: 14 pm and the motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people were injured in the accident, firefighters said.
