A winter storm, a combination of snow and ice is forecast to , have put nearly 20 millions of Americans under weather warning from Texas to the Carolinas.
This weather threat caused the governors of North and South Carolina and Virginia to issue states of emergency. Generally, these alerts cover a wide swath that includes southern Texas, southern Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, western Florida, Virginia, and the Carolinas.
On the other hand, school districts of a Both Carolinas decided to teach virtual classes this Friday and canceled activities due to the announcement of the snow and ice storm. They also reported that low temperatures and icy roads could make travel unsafe.
The winter storm warning for some parts of the Carolinas coast went into effect at midnight and is estimated to remain until noon tomorrow Saturday.
Also, Extensive ice accumulation is expected in Wilmington, North Carolina North, with some areas possibly reaching up to half an inch, according to meteorologist Robert Shackelford.
“Power outages are very likely in ice storm warning areas,” Shackelford said.
Warnings issued for parts of North Carolina and Virginia forecast 1 to 4 inches of snow, with some areas seeing 6 inches. It is also estimated that there will be winds that would reach 65 kph.
On the other hand, in Charleston, South Carolina, the biggest threat is a freezing rain with accumulations of ice to light icing, the forecaster reported. In North Carolina, it could reach 2 inches, and the ice pack will still be a light glaze.
As for Texas, the feeling thermal and winter storm warnings are in effect through this Friday afternoon.
In addition, temperatures in some places in Texas are expected to drop, from highs of 11 to 26 degrees to below zero degrees, with the possibility of a winter mixture.
