San Francisco police reportedly fatally wounded a gunman outside the city’s international airport BART station , on Thursday morning, in an incident that led to closures.
Police was “at the scene with the individual”, who was possibly armed, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Officers confronted the man at approximately 7: 30 am and the incident ended at 8.40 am.
SFPD officers responded to reports of an armed individual at the station and confronted the suspect, who continued to pose a threat, despite efforts to de-escalate, police said.
Officers then used non-lethal means to try to contain the situation, but The suspect kept moving forward and officers shot and killed the person, police said.
The man was carrying two weapons at the airport, NBC reported.
The airport said on its official Twitter page that police were dealing with “an incident.”
“Passengers in the area may be directed around the activity,” added the account.
BART service to SFO was temporarily suspended during the incident and passengers were rerouted around the affected area. Service has since resumed, police said.
A local NBC reporter said cops got involved with “individual threats,” however, no it is clear what the downed person was doing.
The identity of the person was also not disclosed.
The flight operations did not were affected.
A traffic alert was also given, as a BART train station at the airport was closed, but reopened at 30 minutes.
Someone on social media stated that shots were heard at the airport, however this has not yet been confirmed by police.
