Customs Operations Officers of the Office of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found cocaine valued at $310,700 dollars inside a vehicle coming from Mexico at the Hidalgo International Bridge (Texas), the federal agency reported on Tuesday.
“Our CBP officers prevented these narcotics from reaching American streets thanks to their diligence and the use of all available tools and resources,” said Carlos Rodríguez, director of the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
The agency indicated in a statement that the 15 January CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge searched a truck driven by a Mexican citizen of 32 years old who arrived from Mexico.
An officer sent the vehicle for further inspection, which included the use of non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment and a canine group.
When inspecting the vehicle with more detail, officers discovered 15 packages hidden of alleged cocaine that weighed together 40, 30 pounds (18,28 kilos).
The officers arrested the driver and seized the narcotics, while the vehicle and the case continue to be investigated by agents with the National Security Investigations Agency of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE-HSI) of the United States.
