The Secretary of National Defense announced that elements of the Army and Air Force seized a shipment containing methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, opium gum, marijuana, weapons and vehicles in the border state of Sonora, in northern Mexico, resulting from the tracking of an illicit aircraft.
Through the radar installed in Hermosillo, which provides coverage in the Northwest portion of the country, detected that an aircraft was flying an unidentified route, upon verifying its information, it was found that its registration had expired and did not correspond to the aircraft of its type, therefore, in a first phase, it ordered the takeoff of a T-C6+ aircraft as an aerial interception unit; Subsequently, the second phase of the interception operation was activated, deploying an airmobile reaction force with military personnel aboard a h helicopter UH-60 “Black Hawk”.
From the air, it was observed that the aircraft illegal landed in the Municipality of Puerto Peñasco, also in Sonora, and that a group of people quickly unloaded various packages in two vehicles, which is why visual monitoring continued to be given to the aforementioned vehicles, alerting the Mexican Army personnel who in the third phase deployed a ground reaction force, in order to intercept their movement.
As a result of the air and ground monitoring carried out by the Military Personnel of the Army and Air Force, it was observed that the two suspicious vehicles were abandoned in the Municipality of Sonoyta and that their crew members fled in an unknown direction.
In the fourth phase, military personnel managed to secure 24 packages containing 433 kilograms of methamphetamine, 30 kilograms of cocaine, 29 kilograms of fentanyl, 15 kilograms of opium gum and 500 grams of marijuana; in addition, two long weapons, a short weapon, a tactical vest, 30 chargers, 756 cartridges of various calibers and six drums, which were found in the two vehicles.
