Los Angeles County increased by 10 times the cases of daily COVID infections in a month, according to this Monday’s figures provided by the region’s Department of Public Health.
The authorities notified 31,576 new cases, close to 10 times with respect to the statistic that is reported on 10 of December, when the department reported 3,500 infected.

Hospitals have this Monday 4,576 patients hospitalized due to the disease, which represents 6 times the number that was reported a month ago when they had 772 people hospitalized.
The positivity rate is at 16.5% , more than 8 times than the 2% who registered on 17 from December.
The increase in daily cases in the county is due to the presence of the Omicron variant, which is more transmissible than earlier strains of the SARS CoV-2 virus.

This is the first day that Los Angeles County records less than 40,000 infections after 5 consecutive days in which that figure was exceeded . On Thursday a peak of 27,076 infected in 24 hours.
In deaths, on Saturday the authority reported 66 people deceased because of the coronavirus.
Despite registering a 16.5% the positivity rate, the statistic registers a decrease throughout the week, compared to the 20.2% Tuesday.
