AMLO announces visit to Mexico by US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced this Monday that this week will receive a visit from the secretary of Energy of the United States, Jennifer Granholm, with whom he will discuss bilateral issues and, if possible, will take the opportunity to talk about his energy reform.

“The Secretary of Energy of the US government will be in Mexico this week, we are going to receive her and discuss matters of interest,” said the president during his morning press conference from the National Palace.

He pointed out that Granholm will meet with the head of Energy of Mexico, Rocío Nahle, and with Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, in addition to being received at the National Palace.

“I’m still not clear about the program, that’s it, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has it, but I don’t know it , I know I’m going to receive it “, pointed tó.

Although he did not detail the topics that will be discussed, he said that they will talk about everything because there is no “intractable or forbidden” topic, he also said that will inform her of the “why of the electrical reform if it is necessary and if she wants to know my opinion I will give it to her and other issues that may arise”, he pointed out.

Likewise, he said that he will take the opportunity to thank him for allowing the purchase by Mexico of the Deer Park refinery in Texas “because they allowed us to buy the refinery from Shell,” he said.

The president also took the opportunity to announce that the payment for the Deer Park refinery is ready, for which the Ministry of Finance of Mexico authorized 04,000 millions pesos (984 million dollars) and in the next few days the purchase will be finalized.

“Already progress is being made on the purchase in a few days we will inform you when the payment is made“, he asserted.

And he pointed out that the person in charge of the purchase will be the director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Romero, and, if necessary, an official from the Ministry of Finance.

With this refinery in Houston and the one being built in Dos Bocas, in the Mexican southeast, in addition to the Tula coker, the Government hopes to increase its refining capacity by about 700, daily barrels.
