Mexican authorities stop truck with 359 migrants trying to reach the US

In Veracruz, Mexico, agents from the National Institute of Migration stopped the advance of a truck with 300 migrants seeking to reach the United States.

The immigration authorities reported that of the people who were traveling crowded in the back of the truck, 294 were from Guatemala; 38 from Nicaragua; 15 From El Salvador; eight from Honduras and four from Ecuador.

According to the report, events were recorded during the early hours of this Sunday 16 in January 2022, around 3: 30 local time, at a checkpoint on the free highway Coatzacoalcos-Veracruz.

The Federal Immigration Agents (AFM) detained the transport unit to carry out the routine check, when voices were heard coming from the rear of the vehicle.

In a statement it was specified that the driver of the truck, as well as the transport unit, were made available to the Attorney General of the Republic Of the entity.

The truck that transported the more than 300 migrants was similar to the unit that suffered the accident on December 9 in Chiapas, where they died 56 persons.
