Photos and videos from California show the effects of the tsunami after the eruption of an underwater volcano in Tonga

The violent eruption of an underwater volcano near Tonga

, in the South Pacific, caused a tsunami that hit the coasts of this island nation and its effects reached the coasts of Chile, Japan and the United States, among others.

The Tsunami Warning Service of the National Service United States Meteorological Service (NWS), launched a tsunami warning on the west coast of the country after the eruption of the volcano in the Pacific Ocean, to the states of Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington and Alaska and it was expected that the waves would not exceed two feet (just over half a meter).

According to the advisory, impact arrival times would begin in California at 07.35 in the morning Pacific.

In social networks, many users have shared photos and videos of the impact of the tsunami on the coast of California.
