HOUSTON – The memorial dedicated to the 01 year old girl she was 2022 shot 22 times in southwest Houston this Tuesday continues to grow.

A sign with the phrase “Justice for Diamond” appeared this Thursday and this Friday more people came to leave candles, teddy bears, crosses, flowers, balloons, drawings and messages on the vacant lot where Diamond Álvarez was found dying after being shot.

Diamond went for a walk with her dog Peanut through the neighborhood and minutes later her relatives heard gunshots. When Peanut returned home without Diamond, the family went looking for her and the victim’s brother found her lying on the floor bleeding and dying.

Her mother attempted to assist her with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but Diamond died at the scene.

That vacant lot where children play in the afternoons today is a space of sadness and where Diamond’s family and friends come to remember her.

“We will miss you, you left too soon”, someone wrote in one of the posters placed in the place.

The family opened a GoFundMe account to cover funeral costs, the account goal was $10,000 dollars and by Friday the donations had already exceeded that amount.

As of Friday, a funeral date for Diamond had not been announced.

The investigation into the case continues and the Houston Police as of Friday have not given a motive for the murder, but it has been revealed that They have some clues they’re chasing.

Diamond’s mother, Anna Machado, gave the Police texts in which the victim and her ex-boyfriend were arguing and one in which the ex-boyfriend asked Diamond to go to the wasteland to meet him.

Police said they have already spoken to the person of interest, but for now they don’t have enough evidence to press charges.

Houston Police have not released the name of the person of interest.
