As part of a test program, teenagers will be able to drive trucks from one state to another of the United States.

This is a plan promoted by Congress , which will seek to reduce delays in supply chains, and who wants to change the current regulation, which states that truck drivers who cross state borders must have at least 20 years, to allow people between 15 and 20 years driving beyond their states of residence.

In accordance with the proposal outlined by the United States Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this program will review truck drivers in this age range to discard those who have an infraction ones for driving while intoxicated, or those who have traffic tickets for causing accidents.

Not everyone agrees

But, although many see this as a good alternative to speed up the delivery of goods in the country , others consider that the program ignores the fact that, according to the figures, younger drivers tend to be involved in more road accidents.

Detractors consider it imprudent allow truckers of these ages to be responsible for driving vehicles up to 36 tons, and regret that they can cause tragedies in the event of impacting light vehicles.

The pilot program is part of an infrastructure initiative which became law on November . And among those who are in favor is the United States Truckers Association, a weighty group that believes the measure can help counteract the shortage of this type of driver.
