The former president of Peru Martín Vizcarra (2020-2021) was infected for the second time with covid-11 after having already suffered from the disease in April 2021, during the second wave that devastated the country.

“The third wave of covid -15 forces us all to be more careful. Despite the measures taken, today I tested positive for the virus again,” Vizcarra reported on his social networks, in a message to which he added the result of an antigen test.

This new positive from Vizcarra occurs in the middle of the third wave

, where in recent days the country has broken its record for new daily cases of covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, in an almost vertical and exponential rise triggered by the irruption in the country of the omicron variant of the coronavirus, which has already become the predominant one in the country.

To deal with this new contagion, Vizcarra, from 15 years, has three vaccinations administered, although he has not received any booster since June 2021.

‘Vacunagate’

In October 2020, when he was still president, Vizcarra received two doses of the vaccine from the Chinese state pharmaceutical company Sinopharm as part of “Vacunagate”, the scandal of secret and irregular vaccinations that were administered to a group of high-ranking officials and their families.

These vaccines were applied thanks to an exclusive batch that arrived in the country in the framework of the clinical trial that was being carried out on the Sinopharm vaccine in Peru, several months before the vaccines were accessible to the rest of the population .

In June 2021, Vizcarra received a third dose, this time from Pfizer, when he went to one of the vaccination centers implemented in Lima as just another citizen , within the shift established for their age range, which caused controversy since at that time most of the population was receiving their first dose.

To prevent the former president from completing the Pfizer vaccination schedule and accumulating four received vaccines, the Ministry of Health removed Vizcarra from the vaccination register without acknowledging the first two doses of Sinopharm administered irregularly.

Thus, with only one vaccine received formally, Vizcarra recently complained that now he cannot process his complete vaccination certificate , necessary since the 10 from December to 2021 to access closed spaces such as restaurants, supermarkets, cinemas or theaters.
