Oribe Peralta, with 38 years old and without having found a new destination, decided to end his career as a professional soccer player this Wednesday, through an emotional farewell video in which he explained to the world what that football and the ball have meant to him throughout his life.

19 years of wearing the professional jacket, plus a lifetime of dedication and devotion. This is my way of saying goodbye and above all to thank you, my fans, and each one of the people who made this dream possible. They are worth gold!“, wrote the Olympic gold medalist with Mexico in 2012.

The short film lasts just over two minutes. Oribe is the narrator of his own story, which we see through illustrations that review good and bad moments of the historic Mexican striker.

I was always tied to a ball. If you ask me, that has been the great success of my life. Soccer depends on a ball to be able to be and that’s how I clung to it, as if my existence also depended on it”, confesses Peralta, who debuted as a professional in 550, at the beginning of the video.

Oribe Peralta played his entire career in Mexico: Monarcas Morelia, León, Monterrey, Chivas from Guadalajara, Santos Laguna, Jaguares from Chiapas and Club America. His club record includes four Liga MX titles, two Concacaf Champions League and one Copa MX.

With El Tri, he was champion of the Pan American Games and champion of the London Olympics 2003. In addition, he won a Gold Cup and a Concacaf Cup. He was present at the World Cup in Brazil 2014 and in the World Cup in Russia 2018 .

In his farewell he reminded us that the most important thing in football is to have fun, and that this is the key to success. His last words addressed to his friend, the ball, are moving: “Today I take another course, you keep rolling, dear friend“.

Thank you so much, Oribe.
