WASHINGTON – Infections by COVID – 19 in United States have accelerated and increased by 66% in the last week, in which there was also an increase in deaths from the coronavirus pandemic of a 18% .
According to data from Johns Hopkins University published by CNN, in the last seven days an average of 237, 061 new cases , which represents an increase in 66% compared to the previous week.
The deaths, 1, 453 on a weekly average, have exceeded by 18% deaths from seven days before higher.
The increase in infections and deaths in the United States occurs at a time when the Omicron variant hits the country as in the rest of the world and has caused the government that presides Joe Biden take new measures to face this stage.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) yesterday changed the isolation recommendations for infected people, which are reduced from ten to five days if they do not have symptoms.
The change is motivated by the scientific demonstration that the majority of COVID infections – 19 occur at the onset of the disease, in the first and second day of onset of symptoms and two or three days later.
The United States government decided the s Last week to take additional measures before the progress of omicron -such as the purchase of 500 millions of tests that will be distributed at home- and does not rule out taking others.
The government’s top epidemiologist, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said yesterday that it would be “reasonable to evaluate” the imposition of vaccination for domestic flights, that so far do not require vaccination against COVID – 19.
The United States has a 62% of its population fully vaccinated, a low percentage if compared to other countries such as Portugal (88%), Chile (87%) or Spain (90%).
