Julio César Chávez Jr. joined the eternal discussion on Canelo Álvarez . There is a lot of controversy when thinking about whether the tapatío is one of the best boxers in history and an idol in Mexico . Faced with this question, the “Junior” accused Saúl Álvarez of being fearful.
“ What Canelo needs to be is to do better (to be the best Aztec fighter in history). That at least, at the moment, people think that he is the best Mexican of all time. Possibly it could be in qualities, but it is not in pants ”, stated Chávez Jr. in an interview for TV Boxeo.
It is not the first time that Saúl Álvarez is branded as fearful. In fact, in recent days Canelo has acquired this label by constantly rejecting a fight against David Benavidez , the fighter that many consider can beat the Guadalajara.
“He is not (the best) in pants because he doesn’t have the guts to take on whoever it comes from. Two or three times with Golovkin, with me two times, with the one that people want ”, sentenced the“ Junior ”.
On the other hand, Julio César Chávez Jr. compared his compatriot with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao . However, the “Junior” assured that Canelo does not generate the same popularity and profits as said legends, simply because he does not dare to assume what comes ahead
“ Mayweather and Pacquiao sold a million or two million houses fighting with whoever . Canelo sells 700 u 800 thousand houses, which are very good. It has an image, but does not sell more nor is it Mayweather or Pacquiao because it does not dare ”, explained.
Chávez Jr. proud of Canelo’s achievements
Despite the criticism, Julio César Chávez Jr. the blind eye with all the achievements that the tapatío has obtained. The “Junior” considers that Mexicans should feel proud of being able to see the best fighter of the moment.
“It is respected because they have done a great job, but there are little details that remain there and they do not make Canelo the idol that he really should be because he is the best in the world. All Mexicans should be proud because he is the best in the world ”, he concluded.
