Wiplash: between rock, pop and rap

The guys from Wiplash met during the pandemic through social networks. The youngest was then 15 and the oldest 20. They began to rehearse together virtually, but since it was very difficult, at the first opportunity three of them flew to Mexico City.

“I sent them a message and they said yes ”, says Daniel, bassist and founder of the group, and who, like others in the band, only uses his first name to identify himself. “We connected, we liked what we did.”

Daniel, who is the only one from Mexico City, said that he believes a lot in that of elements and signs, and that in this If you think there was good chemistry between the quartet because they all belong to different elements: one is air, another fire, another water and another earth.

Whatever the situation, the truth is that Wiplash –without a hitch between the “w” and the “i” -, started on the right foot once he began to play in the immense Mexico City. One day, without further ado, and when they still didn’t even have a record on the market, they were invited to open the show of the rock and glam band Moderatto, at the Autodromo de los brothers Rodríguez.

“They warned us from one day to the next,” said JJ Moore, lead singer of the group and composer of most of the songs. “We had never played live; It was something very difficult to process. ”

The situation is different now. Wiplash has just released their first album, entitled “RPDF”, which stands for Rock Past of Flow. It’s a fourteen-song album that includes rock, rap and even pop sounds.

“We all like different genres,” said Saracho, the drummer. “But we still hear many similar things, from the eighties, nineties, the Beatles, reggaeton, corridos; We believe that it is music and we don’t have a barrier neither to make it nor to listen to it. ”

Currently, the group is preparing to go on a tour of various cities in Mexico; in February he will perform at the Lunario of the National Auditorium. The event is almost sold out.

In addition to its music, Wiplash has attracted attention because its members usually wear skirts, heels, paint their nails black or put on makeup with different designs: one day they may wearing skulls and another red lips.

“We do it because we like it,” said Daniel. “They tell us that we do it to please certain communities but we do it because we like it and because we do what we want with our style.”

For 2022 little by little the agenda is filling up. For now they are happy because they were included as one of the acts to appear at the Tecate Pal Norte Festival 2022, which is no small thing.

” Now, on our tour, we are the ones who will have guest artists “, said Diego, the guitarist.
