Two Premier League Boxing Day matches suspended due to covid-19 cases

The Premier League of England announced that it suspended two matches of the day of Boxing Day, 26 from December, due to equipment affected by covid cases – 19. The two meetings are between Leeds United against Liverpool FC and the game between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Watford.

The suspension of the matches occurred after the Leeds United, of Marcelo Bielsa, and Watford requested the postponement in the event of covid – 19 registered in both teams.

“The Board Board was able to make the decision before Boxing Day to give clarity to the clubs and their supporters. We apologize for the inconvenience and disruption to the fans’ holiday plans. ”

The Premier League has counted 90 positive for Covid – 19, adding the 20 clubs and this has generated much concern on the eve of the most important day of football in England with the traditional ‘Boxing Day’.

“The league will strive to keep fans informed if matches are at risk on any day. The health and well-being of everyone involved remains our priority ”, said the Premier League statement.

We can confirm our fixture with Leeds United at Anfield on December 26 has been postponed.

The Boxing Day encounter will be rescheduled after the Premier League ruled it was unable to go ahead following the number of positive COVID – 19 cases within the Leeds squad.

Both parties represent, for both Leeds United and Watford, the fight for permanence in the first division. Leeds are in the position 16 of the table with five points above the decline but three more games played. Watford is one place below Leeds with 13 units in 16 games.
