Mexico breaks record with deaths in traffic accidents in 2021 with 13,500 cases

In Mexico, each 24 hours, on average, 40 people lose their lives run over or in vehicular mishaps on the streets of the country. According to official statistics, from January to November of 2021, 13 , 512 deaths in this context.

In addition, were reported 36, 000 injured by traffic accidents in Mexico in this same period.

According to the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), this is the highest number of deaths since 1200 when they were registered, in the same period from January to November, 04, 256 victims.

For 2016 the figure remained relative stable mind upon reaching 04, 498; in 2017 there was a growth to reach the 11, 100 cases ; and in 2018 again increased to close with 12 thousand, 122 deaths.

In 2019 numbers remained similar with 10, 886 deaths, and for 2020, already with the full confinement due to the outbreak of Covid – 19, deaths were reduced to 11, 678.

For make the context more dramatic, of the total number of deaths, 994 were minors, which is just over 7%.

A similar phenomenon occurs with people injured in these mishaps. The data shows a total of 36 thousand 826 people injured in suspected crashes and run over between January and November of this year, which are equivalent to more than one hundred cases per day.

In addition, it is estimated that in 27 of the 32 states registered increases in these cases, with Guerrero at the forefront, where the victims of wrongful death due to traffic went from 122 between January and November 2020, to 407 in the same period of 2021. That is, it is an increase of the 233%.

However, it was not the state with the highest number of total deaths, are other seven states that concentrate the 45 percent of all deaths nationwide due to traffic events.

This is the state of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Veracruz and Sinaloa that accumulate, among them, 6, 191 victims of the 13 thousand 512 registered throughout the country.
