2021 was a year to frame the great stars of Mexican sports, but also to fire legends

The Mexican pilot Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez had his best season in Formula One this year and at 31 years was confirmed as one of the figures to follow in the 2022 as teammate of the world champion Max Verstappen.

‘Checo’ Pérez, from the Red Bull team, won in June on Azerbaijan Grand Prix , and finished in fourth place in the drivers’ standings, although perhaps for what will be remembered this year is for his contribution as a partner of Verstappen, with whom he obtained second place in the constructors’ championship.

Pérez goes through a moment of maturity and in the 2022 will be the Latin American figure to follow , in addition to being in the spotlight for what he can achieve with Max, who will defend his title.

The death this month in Aguascalientes of the scorer Alfredo Moreno , cancer victim to the 41 years, it was the great loss of Mexican sport in the 2021.

With 146 goals achieved between 2001 Y 2014 , Moreno is the Argentine with the most scores in Mexican soccer and one of the league’s most beloved players in this century; was champion with Tijuana in the Apertura 2012 and leader of the scorers with San Luis, in the Apertura 2007.

Despite the covid – 19, Mexico ratified in the 2021 as one of the countries with the longest tradition as the venue for top-level sports competitions and went ahead with the Formula One Grand Prix and the tennis masters tournament.

In a party atmosphere, on October 7, Mexican fans turned the Formula One competition into a party, garnished with the third place of the Mexican Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez , behind the Dutchman Max Verstappen and the British Lewis Hamilton.

In November, Guadalajara organized the WTA final with the triumph of the Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza by defeating her compatriot Paula Badosa in the semifinals and Estonian Annet Kontaveit in the final.

The tournament confirmed the good moment of the Spanish; Muguruza climbed to third place in the world ranking and Badosa, to eighth.
