The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, delivered the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle, in band grade , to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, Jean-Yves Le Drian , for his work to strengthen the bilateral relationship.
During his morning press conference, from the National Palace, the president recognized Le Drian, who highlighted “his performance in favor of foreign policy, in special for his friendly, fraternal treatment with the Government of Mexico and with our people. That is why we are going to impose the decoration of the Aztec Eagle ”, he said.
López Obrador assured that this reaffirms the binational cooperation and praised the importance that the French Chancellor had for the return of some archaeological pieces that are now exhibited in the Museum of Anthropology and History.
Mexico and France cooperate according to the historical principles of the French Revolution, highlighted López Obrador.
He stressed that a French company has just won a tender to build trains that will be used in the Mayan Train, one of the most emblematic works of his Government and affirmed that it is an investment of around from 36,000 million pesos (about 1, 650 million dollars).
He said that an important part of that s vehicles will be assembled in Mexico, which will generate jobs in the country.
“Thank you for your support and we know how much you love We thank Mexico and our people, ”said López Obrador.
For his part, Marcelo Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico, commented that this is the highest distinction awarded to foreigners to recognize the prominent services provided to Mexicans and the world.
Upon receiving the distinction, Le Drian said he was personally committed to the bond between Mexico and France. In addition, he described the friendship between the two nations as vital.
He asserted that Mexico and France share the same ideal of freedom and fraternity, and recalled that some 40, 000 French reside in Mexico, among businessmen, students and artists.
The French minister is visiting the country for two days in which in addition to meeting with López Obrador and Ebrard, he will travel to Monterrey, where he will inaugurate the new Consulate General of France and meet with the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García.
He will also attend the signing of two agreements in the state with the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and will take advantage of to promote the Paris Olympic Games of 2024.
