The iconic British architect Richard Rogers has passed away at the age of 88 years.
According to a spokesperson, one of the greatest architects of his generation had “passed away in silence” on Saturday night.
Rogers rose to fame with his controversial designs for the Center Pompidou in Paris and the Lloyd’s building in London.
He was regarded as one of the most successful and influential architects in the world. He won most of the industry’s top honors and was knighted by the British Crown in 1991.
Born in 1933 in the bosom of a family Anglo-Italian in Florence, Richard Rogers went through the Architectural Association in London before graduating with a Master’s degree from Yale University, USA.
In the decades of 1970 Y 1980, became widely known after designing two buildings that were controversial at the time because they left conveniences like elevators and air conditioning ducts outside: the Pompidou Center in Paris and the Lloyds building in London.
In Latin America and the world
Rogers designed works around the world, including Latin America.
Participated in the design of the BBVA Tower, in Mexico City, and the Atrio Towers, a project currently under construction at the Bogotá International Center.
It also participated in the original design of the Hugo Chávez Park in Caracas , a complex of more than 800 hectares that includes, among other things, a soccer field and a baseball field.
Other of his creations include the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff, Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport and Terminal 4 at Madrid Barajas Airport.
It also built the 3 World Trade Center in New York , a skyscraper of 80 flats on the site of the ancient Twin Towers.
His critics lo over the years includes Ron to Prince Charles, who spoke about his dislike of Rogers’ designs on several occasions.
