Parents across America were concerned after a warning was issued this week about a challenge TikTok that threatened violence within schools on 17 December .

The origin of the challenge remains unclear , but allegedly escalated into threats of violence, including bombings and shootings, leading to many schools to step up security on their respective campuses on Friday.

While the warning did not materialize, it is important to be on the lookout for threats potentials in schools and workplaces as they have increasingly become targets of violent actors.

In an exclusive interview with The US Sun newspaper, the clinical psychologist and forensic and professor at the Unive Arizona rsity Dr. Joel Dvoskin explains three different ways to deal with school threats .

)

“All organizations, schools, corporations, must have a strategy to deal with threats in the workplace,” said Dr. Dvoskin.

Dvoskin recommends identifying a few people in the facility and providing them with additional training on how to recognize a threat, how to decide on its imminence, severity, duration and probability, as well as choosing what steps would make sense to decrease the likelihood of harm.

“If a child threatens a teacher and the teacher decides whether it is serious or not, the teacher just becomes the threat assessor and has no training in that area, “said Dr. Dvoskin.

” On the other hand, if the teacher can refer you to the administration, who in turn can call on a team of people who have been cap The first thing they do is ask a lot of questions.

“What exactly did he say? Who heard it? Are you sure it was said? Did you say something to someone else? Have they gotten into some other kind of trouble? What do you know about that person? ”

The second way to deal with potential dangers is to learn to recognize a threat.

Dr. Dvoskin noted that schools should teach both students and teachers how to identify threatening behaviors and report them.

He added that it is also important to facilitate the report of the potentially threatening person or situation.

Finally, when it comes to a potential threat, it is important to help by addressing the situation .

“The alleged response to people who scare other people should be helpful,” according to Dr. Dvoskin.

“So if someone is scaring other people because they are in danger, maybe we should get them help instead of suspending or expelling them or making their life worse.” The expert said that the goal of these things is to identify worrying people and scary situations as soon as possible, “and then have a system to determine if something needs to be done.”
