The bizarre chain of events unfolded after Barrios pulled over the driver for a traffic violation and suspected her of using methamphetamine, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

Another agent who arrived at the scene also believed that the driver was drugged and was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Throughout the ordeal, the woman vehemently denied that she was intoxicated and Barrios promised to release her if her drug test it was negative, prosecutors said.

The woman gave the sheriff a urine sample.

Barrios was captured in surveillance images at the police station analyzing the sample and upon checking the results, he threw the urine into the garbage.

The officer refused to reveal the test results to the woman and tried to have her put in jail, but she complained to another officer who found the discarded sample and the test kit. test in the trash, prosecutors said.

The kit showed that the woman’s urine sample was negative for all controlled substances. She agreed to another test, which returned the same results.

The agents released the woman and Barrios was later charged.
