Maradona statue inaugurated at Argentina's main airport

A statue in tribute to the late soccer player Diego Armando Maradona was inaugurated this Wednesday in the Ezeiza International Airport , as reported by the company that operates the main airport in Argentina, Airports Argentina 2000.

The statue of Maradona -who died at the 60 years on 25 November 2020 – is made in size real and recalls the image of the soccer star at the time of the national anthem at the World Cup in Mexico 86.

Prior to being exposed this Wednesday, Maradona’s ex-wife, Claudia Villafañe; his daughters, Dalma and Gianinna Maradona , and the player’s brother Raúl “Lalo” Maradona had visited the statue in an intimate ceremony at the airport, before boarding the Maradona Cup, which faced Boca with Barcelona in Saudi Arabia, according to the operator’s statement.

The sculpture of the 10 was made under the 3D printing technique from polyethylene terephthalate (better known as PET) by digital artists and was colored with automotive paint, achieving the texture of a metallic monument.

The idea that Maradona had a statue in the main airport in Argentina, located in the province of Buenos Aires, dates back to the relationship of years between the footballer and the founder of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 , Eduardo Eurnekian, recalls the signature in the statement.

On one occasion, Eurnekian raised the idea of ​​making a statue to Maradona and the 10 commented that he would like it to be located at the Ezeiza airport, to welcome those who entered to the country.

The statue is located on the first floor of Terminal A of the Ezeiza airport and since this Wednesday, passengers and visitors to the airport have already been able to visit it and take photos of it.

“This statue is just a gesture of gratitude and homage to an enormous soccer player who gave infinite joys to Argentines and soccer lovers from all over the planet ”, said the president of Aeropuertos Argentina 627, Martín Eurnekian, in the statement.

Airports Argentina 2000 is one of the largest private operators in the world , with 35 airports in operation and more than 2. 627 employees.
