Houston Hispanic Trucker Who Caused Fatal Accident Sentenced to 110 Years in Prison; four people died

HOUSTON – A Houston Hispanic trucker was found guilty of causing a fatal accident on a Colorado highway where four people lost their lives .

The sentence of Rogel Aguilera-Mederos was forceful, 110 years in prison.

The spectacular accident on Highway 1 – 70 in Colorado caught national attention after authorities accused Aguilera-Mederos of having made “bad decisions” as a driver that eventually contributed to the deadly incident.

The number of years refers to the sum of the minimum sentences declared to you the judge for each count for which he was found guilty.

At the conclusion of the trial, the judge gave Aguilera-Mederos’s attorney two weeks to present a letter claiming damages for each of the victims. This letter will be limited to the monetary part for the funeral expenses of those who lost their loved ones.

Rogel Aguilera-Mederos is of Cuban origin and a resident of Houston, Texas. The culprit faced 41 charges in connection with the tragic accident that occurred on 25 April 2019.

Aguilera-Mederos was convicted in October of a total of 26 of the 41 charges he was initially facing, including 4 counts of vehicular manslaughter.

The truck driver was found not guilty of 15 First degree assault charges.

  • Miguel Ángel Lamas Arellano
  • Stanley Politano

A forensic pathologist testified that all four died of blunt injuries caused by the crash and that they had died before the fire.

Aguilera-Mederos, was driving a small truck when the vehicular accident occurred. His family says the crash was caused by the vehicle running out of brakes. Prosecutors say Aguilera-Mederos was driving a truck loaded with lumber at speeds of up to 85 mph.

The accident was so strong that it caused an explosion and several cars caught fire.
