The Cameroon Football Federation chose the former striker of FC Barcelona and Inter Milan, S amuel Eto’o, as its new president after retiring from professional football in the year 2019, beating the current leader Seidou Mbombo.

The footballer had 43 votes in favor and 31 against, in addition to two abstentions. Last September, Eto’o made his candidacy to command Cameroonian football official because his predecessor had promised a better future for football, however, expectations have not been met.

I will remember today as one of the proudest moments of my life. I am deeply grateful to have been elected as the new president of FECAFOOT, “said Samuel Eto’o on his personal Twitter account, upon learning of his victory.

Samuel Eto’o will have to face several challenges in command of the Cameroonian federation with the classification of the selection to the next Africa Cup , next January in Cameroon itself, although the organization has suffered several delays due to various weather events and the Covid pandemic – 19.

On the other hand , something that the new president of the federation will have to assume is the economic crisis that the governing body of Cameroonian football is experiencing, according to several local media, although in the middle of the campaign Samuel Eto’o promised to give up the monthly allowance that corresponds to him as president to promote soccer projects.

Samuel Eto’o can boast of being the African footballer with the most titles in his career and the only one who has been able to achieve two triplets with different and consecutive teams after passing through the FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.
