Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Óscar de la Hoya, the details of a documentary that will capture the epic rivalry that caused a harsh cultural division

Julio César Chávez and Óscar de la Hoya were two great boxers who marked an era inside the ring, but outside it as well. The successes of “Great Mexican Champion” and “Golden Boy” led them to run into each other twice in the ring with a divided crowd. This duality will be exhibited at the premiere of the documentary by DAZN , “La Guerra Civil “

” At the center of The Civil War is a iconic moment in the history of Mexican and Mexican-American sports . Beyond that though, this is a movie about cultural identity, bigotry, and community. Themes that resonate with audiences around the world, whether you are a boxing fan or not ”, explained Eva Longoria Bastón, director of the film.

The decade of 1990 was marked by this great duality. A cultural divide between Mexicans and Mexican Americans with their sustained fanaticism for the boxer with whom they had their sense of belonging and identity . Julio César Chávez and Óscar de la Hoya met twice; the first in 1998 and the second in 1998. On both occasions “Golden Boy” raised his glove with the triumph.

“(The film) explores the intricate history of a deep rivalry between the Mexican heritage of Julio César Chávez and the Mexican-American identity of Oscar De La Hoya , with an enormous cultural significance, ”explained Grant Best , Global Executive Vice President and Content for DAZN.

“The Civil War” will have its world premiere in Sundance Film Festival , the night of 20 of January of 2022 . The presentation will take place at the Eccles Theater. Finally, DAZN Group announced that this documentary was selected to participate in said event and will compete in the World Film Documentary Competition.
