They intercept about 5 tons of drugs and capture 8 people in Panama
The National Aeronaval Service of Panama (Senan) seized 4, 883 packages of a drug in three different operations and apprehended eight people, six of them nationals of Colombia and Nicaragua, for his alleged link with the illicit substance, reported the police force.
In an operation south of Isla Coiba, Pacific of Panama, Senan agents seized during a control patrol of maritime traffic 1, 979 packages of a drug, not specified in its total weight or type.
The illicit substance was stored in 46 packages found aboard a boat that along with the drugs and three crew members was transferred to a Senan base in Santiago, capital of the province of Veraguas.
Those apprehended in this case, unidentified, are two men of Nicaraguan nationality and a Colombian , specified an official source.
In another procedure east of Chitré, on the Pacific coast, Senan agents intercepted a speedboat manned by two Panamanians, in which they found 1, 127 drug packages.
In a third operation, also east of the city of Chitré, 1, 468 packages of illicit substance aboard a boat manned by three Colombian citizens.
The Senan highlighted that so far from 2021 accumulates 100 anti-drug operations and 79, 936 seized drug packages.
The Minister of Public Security, Juan Pino, said on 22 of last October that until that moment had been seized in Panama the record number of 98, 6 tons of drugs , mostly cocaine.
Of these seizures, more than 84 tons were trafficked by sea lanes, while some 46 tons of cocaine were found in cargo containers, a growing modality in this criminal activity.
Panama, a transit country for the drug that is produced in the south of the continent and whose main market is North America, seized in 2020 a total of 84. 87 tons of drugs.
