Wireless service provider T-Mobile agreed to pay $ 19 $ .5 million in a settlement with the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a nationwide outage of 12 hours occurred in June of 2020.

The failure caused thousands of emergency calls to 911 to not materialize, seriously affecting users who were left without help due to this situation .

The federal agency reported that as part of the agreement, T-Mobile will also commit to improve communications from cuts to emergency call centers, between other measures.

The FCC added that there was a “total failure” of more than 23, 000 calls to 911 d due to the interruption. There were also calls that were made but without key information such as a callback number or location data.

The FCC investigation detailed that the outage started due to a failure in part of T-Mobile’s network, which was made worse by routing and software errors .

The Bellevue, Washington company explained that the June episode of 2020 was an “isolated short-term outage and we immediately took steps to further improve our network to prevent this type of event from occurring in the future.”

This is not the first time such interruptions have occurred. T-Mobile paid a fine of $ 17 .5 million dollars after two related service outages nationwide on the same day in August of 2014.

East 2021 has not been entirely positive for the communications company, since a few months ago it suffered a massive hack that has had an impact on the fact that it is facing a massive demand from customers, whose data was stolen.

The T-Mobile hack, which occurred in August, affected 100 millions of users, the telecommunications company will have to face collective lawsuits backed by millions of affected. So far there has been no final ruling, so if the lawsuit is lost, the company could lose billions of dollars.
