Mexico forecasts up to 12 winter storms to arrive through March
The Mexican authorities forecast this Wednesday between 10 and 12 winter storms during the season 2021 – 2022 and will be in the months of December and January when the largest number of these systems is registered .
The winter storm season “ begins in November and ends in March next year , with December and January being the months in which a greater number of these phenomena are registered ”, informed the coordinator of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), Alejandra Méndez.
He indicated that the first winter storm of the season is located over the southwestern United States, and is expected to enter Mexico during the night of this Wednesday, about state of Baja California.

On the forecast for the winter storm season 2021 – 2022, the head of the SMN explained that, derived from the presence of cold fronts, polar air masses and winter storms, “ minimum temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius are forecast for the December, January and February, in the northwestern states of Mexico “.
This without ruling out that in areas of Baja California and Sonora temperatures can be recorded below zero degrees Celsius.
He specified that, for the same period, in the north of the country the minimum temperatures would be between – 5 and 0 degrees Celsius in the upper parts of Chihuahua and Durango , and values of 0 to 5 degrees Celsius in the rest of the region.
While in the northeast of the Mexican territory minimum temperatures of between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius, without ruling out values from 0 to 5 degrees on the mountains of Coahuila and Nuevo León.
In the western and central states of the country, the minimum temperatures will range between 5 and 10 Celsius degrees. However, values of 0 to 5 degrees could be registered in the upper parts of the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Puebla, Querétaro and Tlaxcala .
Winter storms are systems cold core low pressure, which are located at different levels of the atmosphere, and upon entering Mexico, have a displacement towards the northeast and cause a marked drop in temperature, snow or sleet fall, freezing rain, strong winds , drizzle and rain, plus high waves when in the Gulf of California.
